About Lesage

Lesage is a Cabell County census-designated place along Ohio River Road, with the river forming the community's main geographic reference. It is the nearest community to the Clover site, a National Historic Landmark tied to an ancient Ohio Valley settlement. Lesage also has one of West Virginia's most recognizable roadside businesses: Hillbilly Hot Dogs, opened in 1999 by Sonny and Sharie Knight on the riverbank. The restaurant grew from a 12-by-16-foot building into a cluster of old buses and roadside oddities, giving the place a landmark that is as local as it is unusual. Huntington is the larger regional reference point, while the road, river, archaeological site, and hot-dog stand make Lesage easy to place. It is a small West Virginia river community with a deep past and a very current roadside personality.
