Levan, UT

Levan is a Juab County town in the Juab Valley, at the western foot of the San Pitch Mountains. The 2020 census counted 862 residents. Utah 28 runs through town, linking Levan north to Nephi and south toward Gunnison. The name is often said to be "navel" spelled backward because of Levan's central place in Utah, though local history also credits Brigham Young with choosing the name.

The valley gives Levan its everyday shape: irrigated fields, mountain walls, and the road threading between towns. Juab School District serves local students, while Chicken and Pigeon creeks flank the town and feed the older agricultural story. Pioneer-built barns, cabins, and the old meetinghouse still sit among the streets, giving Levan a visible nineteenth-century layer. The town grid still holds the old settlement together. The name may have several stories, but the landscape is easier to agree on: San Pitch peaks behind town, fields in front, and a highway carrying county errands through the middle.
