About Lewes

Lewes is a historic coastal city in Sussex County, Delaware, situated where the Delaware Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. Established by Dutch colonists in 1631 and known as the first town in the first state, the community of approximately 3,500 is the home of the Zwaanendael Museum. Part of Delaware's rapidly growing Cape Region, the city offers public beaches, a historic district, and is served by the Cape Henlopen School District.
