Lewis, CO

Lewis is a Montezuma County census-designated place, post office, and unincorporated town of 257 residents in the 2020 census, on the northeast side of U.S. 491 in the county's northern stretch. ZIP 81327 gives the community a clear postal identity. U.S. 491 runs south 11 miles to Cortez, the county seat, and northwest 48 miles toward Monticello, Utah. Colorado Highway 184 branches from the southern edge and runs east 10 miles to Dolores, making the small settlement a useful junction in a large, open county.

Lewis sits at about 6,726 feet, where the high plateau country around Montezuma County spreads out beyond the highway. A gas station, restaurant, and post office serve as practical landmarks near the route, while side roads lead into the surrounding rural landscape.
