Lightstreet, PA

Lightstreet is a Columbia County census-designated place four miles northeast of Bloomsburg along Pennsylvania Route 487, east of Fishing Creek. It started as Williamsburg, was laid out by Phillip Seidle in 1817, and later took its present name from a Baltimore street. This is a small settlement in the Bloomsburg orbit, organized by a state route and a creek valley rather than a separate municipal center. The creek shaped the older road pattern and settlement.

Fishing Creek has carried much of the local working story—farms, mills, roads, and the water route toward the Susquehanna. County history records early grist and sawmills in the broader township, while the creek now runs through the landscape toward the Susquehanna and a seven-acre park near Lightstreet created in 2002. Central Columbia School District is the local school connection. For larger errands and services, Bloomsburg is the nearby center; Lightstreet’s distinct character is the meeting of a nineteenth-century village plan, a waterway, and Route 487.
