Ligonier, PA

Ligonier is a Westmoreland County borough in the Ligonier Valley, surrounded on every side by Ligonier Township and about an hour southeast of Pittsburgh. The 2020 census counted 1,513 residents. The town grew out of the French and Indian War era, when the British built Fort Ligonier in 1758 as part of the route toward Fort Duquesne. The fort gave the valley its name and left the borough with an unusually visible military beginning. Today, the old Diamond and the Ligonier Historic District give the center a recognizable town-square shape, while Fort Ligonier keeps the 18th-century story close to the storefronts.

Fall brings Fort Ligonier Days, a three-day parade and craft-market weekend, and summer's Ligonier Country Market fills the same valley with another wave of visitors. Idlewild and SoakZone and Seven Springs sit nearby, but Ligonier's own role is as a crossroads for the valley.
