About Little Falls

Little Falls is a Cumberland County census-designated place within Gorham, set along the Presumpscot River across from South Windham. The river made the village a natural mill location: Gorham’s planning history places Little Falls among the Presumpscot communities where grist, lumber, woolen, and pulp mills used the water’s power. Windham and Gorham still treat Little Falls and South Windham as one connected village area even though the river marks the municipal boundary. The present planning work focuses on the old village core, river access, trails, and the Little Falls Veterans Memorial Bridge. Little Falls is best understood through that shared river setting—one community’s name on the Gorham side, another on the Windham side, and the Presumpscot holding both together.
