Little Ponderosa, OK

Little Ponderosa is a Beaver County census-designated place in the northwest corner of the Oklahoma Panhandle. U.S. Routes 83 and 270 run along its west side, and Liberal, Kansas, is about seven miles to the northwest. The community sits in open border-country terrain where county lines, highway routes, and wide stretches of grassland matter more than a dense town center.

Older maps give Little Ponderosa some useful texture. A 1973 topographic map shows Short Creek, a Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad line, wells, and Independence Cemetery in the surrounding area. The place was listed as a census-designated place after the 2010 census, and Turpin Public Schools serves the community. Little Ponderosa is a small named place on the Beaver County map, tied to the Kansas border, the two U.S. routes, and the scattered infrastructure of the Panhandle, with no long commercial main street.
