Little Rock, OK

Little Rock is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in southeastern Mayes County, Oklahoma. The 2020 census counted 197 residents. U.S. 412 and the Cherokee Turnpike pass through the community, with exits near Locust Grove to the southwest and Rose and Leach to the east. Snake Creek forms the southern boundary and flows toward the Neosho River. Locust Grove Public Schools serve local students, while the highway connects Little Rock to the larger roads of northeastern Oklahoma.

Little Rock’s map is made from creek bottoms, ranch and farm roads, and the turnpike corridor instead of a municipal downtown. The community was first listed as a CDP in 2020, so the name is a recent census label for an older rural settlement pattern. Its setting sits inside the history of Mayes County, which was formed from parts of the Cherokee and Creek nations at statehood. Little Rock remains a small Mayes County place where Snake Creek, the Neosho watershed, and a major east-west highway meet.
