About Livonia

Livonia is a Pointe Coupee Parish town named for Livonia, Pennsylvania, the home of early settler J. B. Johnson. It was established in 1846, incorporated as a village in 1959, and became a town after a 1983 special census. The conical Livonia Mound is the tallest of the ten remaining Indigenous burial mounds in Pointe Coupee Parish, giving the town a much older layer than its municipal dates. The Livonia Lions Club Mardi Gras parade arrives the weekend before Mardi Gras Day. Livonia is south Louisiana with a mound, a name carried from Pennsylvania, and a parade on the calendar.
