Lizton, IN

Lizton is a Hendricks County town in Union Township, with 511 residents in the 2020 census. Jesse Veiley laid it out as New Elizabeth in 1837 and named it for his wife, Elizabeth. The post office opened under that name in 1854 and became Lizton in 1873. Today the town sits in northwest Hendricks County near U.S. 136, State Road 39, and Interstate 74. Interstate 74 provides a regional road link toward Indianapolis and nearby towns.

Lizton shares its school geography with Pittsboro and North Salem through North West Hendricks School Corporation, which has operated as a single school unit since 1965. North Salem Elementary serves Lizton students, while Tri-West Middle and High Schools serve students across the district. The school corporation covers 98.4 square miles of largely agricultural county land, so Lizton's daily connections run through a wider township and town network. Its small-town map carries an early settlement name, a post-office history, and a school system built across three communities.
