Lloydsville, OH

Lloydsville is a small Belmont County community in Richland Township, close to St. Clairsville and the hills of eastern Ohio. Joshua Loyd laid out the settlement in 1831, and older references sometimes call it Loydsville. A post office opened the next year and remained until 1907, a reminder that the place once handled more daily business under its own name than a modern map might suggest. The early village belonged to the same network of roads, farms, and county institutions that tied Belmont's hilltop settlements together.

Today Lloydsville works as a rural residential and roadside community within Belmont County's larger network. County roads lead toward St. Clairsville, the seat of government, shopping, schools, and the National Road corridor, while farms and wooded hills keep the immediate surroundings distinctly Appalachian. The county's long connections to coal, rail, and river towns sit in the background, but Lloydsville's strongest character comes from its early plat and the name that survived after the post office closed.
