Lockwood, MO

Lockwood is a Dade County city where the 2020 census counted 846 residents. The town was platted in 1881 as the Frisco railroad reached the west side of the county, and its name honored the railroad's general passenger agent. That rail connection gave a new town a place in the farm trade of southwest Missouri, with a compact grid surrounded by Dade County's open country.

Lockwood R-I School District keeps education centered in town, and Lockwood Public Library adds another everyday institution. Roads lead toward Greenfield, Stockton, and Springfield, while local streets serve farms, homes, and small businesses around the city limits. Lockwood's story is modest but sturdy: a railroad town laid out in the 1880s, a school district carrying the community forward, and a library that gives the center a place for books, meetings, and regular routines.
