About Loleta
Loleta is a Humboldt County unincorporated community and census-designated place with 828 residents in the 2020 census, five miles south of Fields Landing and about 15 miles south of Eureka. The settlement sits between the Eel River and Bear River landscape, with a central community area opening into rural dairy and farm country. Highway 101 is close, but Loleta’s daily map is more about valley roads, tribal lands, and the school district than a conventional downtown. The Bear River Band of the Rohnerville Rancheria is headquartered in Loleta, and Bear River Casino Resort, the recreation center, and related tribal facilities give the community an economic and cultural center outside the usual town pattern.

Loleta Union School District serves K–8 students through Loleta Elementary. The community is also a base for Wiyot cultural and civic work, with the Wiyot Tribe’s programs and services nearby. Loleta is small, but its map connects coastal agriculture, tribal institutions, and the wider Humboldt Bay region.
