About Lone Oak

Lone Oak is a Sequatchie County census-designated place along U.S. 127 south of Dunlap, at an elevation above 2,000 feet on the edge of the Chattanooga region. The 2020 census counted 1,198 residents. Dunlap is the county seat and the only incorporated area in Sequatchie County, so Lone Oak's larger civic connections run down the highway into the valley. The route also brings the community into the orbit of the annual 127 Yard Sale, which turns the road corridor into a regional event each summer. The Lone Oak Community Center is the clearest everyday gathering point.

The civic league's building also houses the volunteer fire department, hosts quilting, medical clinics, music, bingo, technology classes, and seasonal events, and rents space for the 127 Sale. Free medical and dental clinics and emergency assistance make the center part of the community's practical support network. Lone Oak's local scoop is a Tennessee ridge community where one U.S. route links a county seat, a volunteer fire station, a community hall, and an annual yard sale.
