About Long Neck

Long Neck is a Sussex County census-designated place on the peninsula between Rehoboth Bay and Indian River Bay. The bays are close on either side. The 2020 census counted 3,017 residents. It sits south of Route 24, about four miles east of Millsboro and roughly nine miles west of Route 1, in the Seaford micropolitan area. The area uses a Millsboro postal address and Indian River School District services, with Long Neck Elementary serving local children. Water and the main road give Long Neck its everyday shape.

Massey's Landing provides a boat ramp and fishing pier on Indian River Bay, while the Long Neck area gathers restaurants and other roadside businesses between the bays. The area also carries a deeper local history: Rosedale Beach Resort was part of Nanticoke and African American community life during the early and mid-20th century. Long Neck is a Delaware coastal crossroads where homes, bay access, schools, and roadside places sit on one narrow piece of land.
