Loreauville, LA

Loreauville is an Iberia Parish village on the east side of Bayou Teche, with 658 residents in the 2020 census. It sits eight miles northeast of New Iberia and nine miles southeast of St. Martinville, in a water-and-road landscape shaped by the bayou, the Loreauville boat landing, and connected waterways toward Lake Fausse Pointe State Park. Iberia Parish schools serve local children at Loreauville Elementary and Loreauville High School. The village is part of the New Iberia micropolitan area and the broader Lafayette regional orbit.

The place began as Picouville, took the name Loreauville in 1871 after Ozaire Loreau, and incorporated in 1910. A bridge across Bayou Teche opened in 1899, helping connect the sugarcane country on both sides. Agriculture came first, followed by logging, oil, and boat building; three large boat builders operate in Loreauville today. A 1923 canal project linked Lake Fausse Pointe and Bayou Teche to improve water movement and industry. Loreauville is a Louisiana village where Cajun heritage, sugarcane, boatyards, and bayou travel still share one setting.
