About Los Altos Hills

Los Altos Hills occupies land once divided between two Spanish–Mexican grants, Rancho San Antonio de Padua and Rancho La Purísima Concepción. Governor Juan Bautista Alvarado granted Rancho San Antonio to Alta California commander Juan Prado Mesa in 1839; Ohlone communities had maintained villages nearby long before that transfer. The incorporated Santa Clara County town lies among small hills and counted 8,489 residents in 2020. Its open-space preserves include Rancho San Antonio and Westwind Barn. Foothill College is located in town and also houses the headquarters of the Foothill–De Anza Community College District.
