Lost City, OK

Tucked into the rolling, wooded hills of northeastern Oklahoma’s Green Country, Lost City offers a quiet rural lifestyle just northwest of Tahlequah. Local folklore traces the community's intriguing name back to an early settlement that mysteriously disappeared into the hills. Today, the area is made up of spread-out homesteads, scenic country lanes, and plenty of elbow room. It sits right in the heart of lake country, putting Fort Gibson Lake only minutes to the west for weekend boating, camping, and fishing.

Lost City also has a neat claim to fame from January 1970, when a bright fireball dropped a well-documented meteorite right in the area, drawing scientists from the Smithsonian. Day-to-day living here centers on privacy and the outdoors, offering wide-open skies, wooded acreage, and a peaceful country feel. Whenever you need grocery runs, local dining, healthcare, or schools, downtown Tahlequah is an easy 15-minute drive down Highway 51.
