Lovelock, NV

Lovelock is Pershing County’s seat, a Humboldt River town that grew from overland travel and the railroad. George Lovelock bought land here in 1866, and the Transcontinental Railroad built a depot in 1868; the route turned the settlement into a place where travelers, farmers, and miners crossed paths. The Marzen House Museum in downtown keeps early mining equipment, pioneer household items, and artifacts from the region. Lovelock Cave, tied to Northern Paiute history, adds a much older layer: eleven tule duck decoys found there are Nevada’s state artifact. The local map still follows the river. The Lovelock Cave & Backcountry Byway starts at the museum and runs past Big Five Dam, the Humboldt River, and the old Lake Lahontan basin before reaching the cave. Court House Park hosts Lovelock Frontier Days each summer, so the town’s calendar joins county government, Great Basin archaeology, river country, and western competition in the same few blocks.
