Lyndonville, NY

Lyndonville is an Orleans County village on the Ontario lake plain, about four miles south of Lake Ontario and centered on Johnson Creek. The first settlers moved from Yates Center to use the creek’s waterpower, and the village incorporated in 1903 within the Town of Yates. New York Route 63 runs through the center, with Route 18 nearby, while orchards and fields fill the space between the village and the lake. A waterfall at the school campus and Veterans Memorial Park give Johnson Creek a visible role in everyday village life.

Lyndonville also sits among several Amish and Mennonite farms, making agriculture here feel both historic and current. The region is known for apples, and the village’s summer concerts, July 4th celebration, library, and park keep the center active through the year. The name came from early settlers from Lyndon, Vermont, adding a small New England echo to this western New York place. The 2020 census counted 771 residents. Lyndonville has a compact map, but its setting reaches outward in every direction: creek water, lake weather, orchard rows, farm lanes, and the Rochester region beyond.
