Lynnville, IA

Lynnville was laid out in 1856 beside the North Skunk River and incorporated in 1875; the name came from a linden grove near the original town site. The river still gives the Jasper County city its physical line, while the Lynnville-Sully school district and Diamond Trail Children's Center serve the surrounding area. The map is a blend of old river town and current school-and-business center, with parks and a campground woven into the city grid.

City Hall is where the Lynnville Chamber meets each month, and the chamber helps plan Lynnville Day in June. The library at 404 East Street adds storytime, job help, a catalog, and a calendar to the town's regular routine; the Friends of the Lynnville Library group supports those services. Parks, local businesses, the North Skunk River, and the school district give Lynnville several small centers of activity. It is the kind of Jasper County place whose calendar is carried by a city hall, a library, and one June community day.
