About Madison

Madison is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Dorchester County, Maryland, United States. The 2010 census counted 204 residents. " Around 1822, Harriet Tubman was born just outside the hamlet; in her youth, she lived in her father's cabin nearby, in what is now the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Madison is located in western Dorchester County, at the south end of Madison Bay, an arm of the Little Choptank River and part of the Chesapeake Bay estuary system. That mix gives Madison a clear local shape within Maryland, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. Maryland Route 16 passes through the community, leading northeast 10 miles to Cambridge, the county seat, and southwest 5 miles to Taylors Island.
