About Mammoth Lakes

Mammoth Lakes is a mountain resort town in Mono County, immediately east of Mammoth Mountain in the eastern Sierra Nevada. Its early economy was based on logging and tourism, and tourism still drives the town through skiing, snowboarding, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and access to high-country scenery. The Mammoth Ski Museum reflects how central winter sports are to local identity. Mammoth Lakes feels remote in the best way: a real town, but one organized around mountains, seasons, and outdoor obsession.
