About Mancos

Mancos is a southwestern Colorado town of 1,196 residents in the 2020 census, sitting in the Mancos River valley at roughly 7,000 feet and seven miles from Mesa Verde National Park's entrance. The town began in 1894 near the route early Spanish travelers used through the valley; the Old Spanish Trail later passed through the area. That combination of river, high-country setting, and Mesa Verde access still puts Mancos on a very particular corner of the Four Corners map. Main Street is getting a fresh civic push: the town began a new engagement process in 2025 to shape a Main Street program around downtown businesses.

The everyday gathering places are small and concrete, including Boyle Park behind Town Hall, Cottonwood Park, Pioneer Plaza, Grand and Main Corner Park, the community center, and the Mancos Skate Park. Burro Fest, Mancos Brew Fest, River Film Fest, and Mancos Days add recurring dates to the calendar. Mancos works as a gateway town, yet its own center is still legible in the river valley.
