Mannsville, NY

Mannsville is a village in the Town of Ellisburg in Jefferson County, New York, south of Watertown. U.S. Route 11 crosses the village, Interstate 81 runs within about a mile to the west, and Skinner Creek supplied the water power that drew early settlers. The village incorporated in 1879 and the 2020 census counted 297 residents. That layout gives Mannsville a practical north-south connection with a small creek running through the older local story.

The village name comes from Barzillian Mann, an early developer, and the community first settled around 1801. A fire destroyed several buildings in 1885, after which the village rebuilt. Today the municipal building shares space with Mannsville Free Library, and Lilac Park gives the village a recognizable civic green; the village also hosts a Lilac Festival. South Jefferson Central School District serves the area. The local scoop is a tiny Jefferson County village with a creek-powered beginning, a highway-and-interstate location, and a park that still gives the place a center.
