Marble, NC

Marble is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Cherokee County, set along the Valley River between Andrews and Murphy. U.S. 19, 129, and 74 pass through the area, and the road toward Andrews-Murphy Airport reaches the airport in about four miles. The community was first called Marble Springs; the name was later shortened to Marble, though Marble Springs Baptist Church on Marble Road still carries the older name. That church began in 1873 with a congregation drawn largely from Valley River Baptist Church in Andrews.

Marble's setting puts Appalachian road travel, river valleys, and small-town institutions in the same frame. The airport hosts the biannual Celebration of Flight, and Airport Road served as U.S. 19 until 1979. Tri-County Community College is close by, while Cherokee County schools serve local children. The 2020 census counted 278 residents. Marble is small enough for its landmarks to stay closely connected, yet its position between the county's two main towns keeps it tied to the wider Valley River corridor.
