Marcus Hook, PA

Marcus Hook is a Delaware County borough on the west bank of the Delaware River, a place where shipbuilding, fishing, quarantine work, and industry have all followed the water. In the early 1700s the lower river was known for pirates around Marcus Hook; by the 18th and 19th centuries the borough had become a center for small ship construction and shad fishing. The U.S. Quarantine Station operated here from 1887 into the late 1960s, and the borough incorporated in 1892. Marcus Hook is a Pennsylvania river town with a long working shoreline and an old reputation for trouble on the water.
