About Marcus

Marcus is a Cherokee County city that began with its first building in 1871 and incorporated on May 15, 1882. The city sits in western Cherokee County on Highway 143, a mile north of Highway 3, and its school story now runs through the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Community School District. That district formed in 1993 when the Marcus and Meriden-Cleghorn systems joined, keeping both older community names in the picture. The 2020 census counted 1,079 people. Marcus is an Iowa place with a short founding timeline, a clear highway position, and a school name that carries the neighboring towns forward.
