Marcus, WA

Tucked away in Stevens County in northeastern Washington, Marcus is a tiny, quiet community with just over 200 residents. Named after early settler Marcus Oppenheimer in 1863, the town originally began as a busy supply post along the Columbia River. When the construction of Grand Coulee Dam created Lake Roosevelt in the late 1930s, rising waters flooded the original site, prompting locals to rebuild the entire town on higher ground overlooking the water.

Today, Marcus offers a relaxed pace of life with direct access to Lake Roosevelt and the surrounding hills. Residents enjoy plenty of outdoor recreation right in their backyard, including boating, fishing, and camping. The area experiences four distinct seasons, with warm, sunny summers and cold, snowy winters. It is a peaceful, scenic place to settle down, with everyday shopping, schools, and services located just a short drive away in neighboring Kettle Falls and Colville.
