Marin City, CA

Marin City is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Marin County, just north of Sausalito. Before World War II the area was mostly dairy land and a few families, but wartime shipbuilding and later housing patterns gave Marin City a very different history from the wealthy communities around it. Schools are tied to Sausalito Marin City and Tamalpais Union districts. Marin City feels compact, layered, and socially distinct, with steep hills, apartment communities, and some of Marin's sharpest contrasts nearby.
