Marquette, WI

Tucked along the southern shore of Lake Puckaway, Marquette is a peaceful Green Lake County village surrounded by quiet farmland and rolling, wooded hills. Home to just over 200 residents, it offers a slow-paced lifestyle with deep historical roots. French explorer Jacques Marquette passed through in 1673, and the settlement eventually grew out of a frontier trading post. In the mid-1800s, ambitious founders even campaigned to make Marquette the state capital of Wisconsin, falling short by only 36 votes.

Today, life in the village revolves almost entirely around the water. Four public boat launches make it easy to spend sunny afternoons cruising, kayaking, or fishing for walleye and northern pike on Lake Puckaway. The community gathers at a classic local supper club and neighborhood taverns, while summer cottages and campgrounds welcome visitors throughout the warmer months. Students attend the nearby Markesan School District, and everyday conveniences are an easy drive away, making Marquette an appealing spot for anyone seeking simple, scenic lakeside living.
