About Marrero

Marrero is a large census-designated place in Jefferson Parish, on the west bank of the Mississippi River across from New Orleans. It was named for Louis H. Marrero, a Louisiana politician and founder of the Marrero Land Company. The community sits between Harvey and Westwego, with public schools run by the Jefferson Parish Public School System. Marrero has a distinctly West Bank feel: residential neighborhoods, river proximity, industrial corridors, and deep ties to the New Orleans metro without being part of the city.
