Marshallville, NJ

Marshallville is an unincorporated Cape May County community in Upper Township, set on the south side of the Tuckahoe River just north of New Jersey Route 49. The village began as a glassmaking community after Randall Marshall and Frederick Stanger established the Cumberland Glass Works in the early nineteenth century. Its river access also connected Marshallville to shipbuilding, iron production, and the wider maritime economy of southern New Jersey.

The Marshallville Historic District preserves a linear group of Federal-style houses and other buildings along the old village road. Mature trees, sandy ground, the Tuckahoe River, and nearby farms give the settlement a different feel from the shore towns to the east. The river remains the village's spine. Route 49 carries through traffic toward Millville and Tuckahoe, while Upper Township handles the civic services of this unincorporated place. Marshallville is a South Jersey village where glass, iron, river transport, and a handful of old brick homes still show the shape of the community.
