Mattituck, NY

Mattituck is a hamlet and census-designated place on Long Island's North Fork, within the town of Southold. Its name is believed to come from an Algonquian term for Great Creek, and water still gives the place much of its shape. The annual Strawberry Festival is a signature local event, fitting a community surrounded by farms, vineyards, and bays. Mattituck feels agricultural and coastal at once, with North Fork wineries, school traditions, boatyards, summer visitors, and old hamlet life sharing the same roads.
