Maywood, CA

Maywood took an unusual approach to city government on July 1, 2010, laying off nearly all municipal employees, disbanding its police department, and contracting with outside agencies for services. The compact Gateway Cities municipality is the third-smallest incorporated city in Los Angeles County by area; Bell, Vernon, Huntington Park, and Commerce border it. A population of 25,138 was recorded in 2020. Maywood holds an annual street fair over Memorial Day weekend. Its park system includes Maywood Park, two pocket parks, and Maywood Riverfront Park beside the Los Angeles River. Riverfront Park has sports courts and provides access to the 40-mile LA River Bike Path.
