Maywood, IL

Maywood is a village west of Chicago, shaped by railroad-era growth after the Civil War. A plaque at today's Lake Street marks part of that early development story, and the village later became known for civic traditions such as the annual Bataan Day Parade. Maywood is also close to major institutions, including Loyola University Medical Center in the surrounding area. The village has an older inner-suburban feel: dense blocks, transit access, long history, and ongoing challenges alongside real community pride.
