McIntosh, NM

McIntosh is a Torrance County census-designated place of 1,395 people at the 2020 census, spread along old and new New Mexico 41 in southern central New Mexico. The post office opened in 1906, and the road still gives the community its basic shape: a long rural settlement tied to Moriarty, Estancia, Albuquerque, and Santa Fe by highway commutes. The surrounding county is agricultural, with pinto beans, corn, alfalfa, pumpkins, and open rangeland filling the larger map.

School boundaries split McIntosh between Moriarty-Edgewood and Estancia Municipal Schools, which is a good clue to its in-between position. The Torrance County development plan describes the CDP as the core of a wider McIntosh community, with more than half of that population living inside the CDP and many working residents in education, health care, and social assistance. McIntosh is a road-and-post-office place: small local institutions, scattered homes, farm land, and the high desert horizon all sit along NM 41. Southern Torrance County's mix of fields, grazing land, and roadside homes supplies the wider setting.
