About Meadow Lake

Meadow Lake is a large, spread-out community in far northeastern Valencia County, set between Isleta Pueblo, the Peralta/Valencia area, and the lower slopes of the Manzano Mountains. The CDP counted 4,573 residents in 2020, but its layout is less like a compact town than a broad subdivision: Meadow Lake was established in the mid-1950s, and Meadow Lake Road remains the main route through the community and its only direct link to NM 47. The surrounding terrain is mostly flat grassland, with the mountains rising a few miles to the east.

What holds the place together is a set of practical institutions. The Meadow Lake Fire District handles local fire protection, the county’s community center offers senior meals, Head Start, recreation, and meeting space, and a community drinking-water system serves the homes. Los Lunas Schools operates the public schools, tying Meadow Lake to the wider Valencia County network. With more than 1,500 dwelling units and a high share of manufactured homes, Meadow Lake has the feel of a full community built along roads and lots, not a resort named for a postcard lake.
