Melba, ID

Melba is a Canyon County city about twelve miles south of Nampa and three miles northeast of the Snake River. It sits in the Snake River Valley among working farm fields, with the road to Nampa handling larger errands and the river marking the southern edge of the local map. The city was founded in 1912 by Clayton C. Todd, who named it for his daughter.

Agriculture is not background decoration here; it is the town’s main work story. Melba farmers raise potatoes, beans, sugar beets, onions, corn, grain, and seed crops, and the city describes itself as a seed-growing center for onions, carrots, peas, beans, sweet corn, alfalfa, and clover. Melba Joint School District 136, the grocery store, local clinics, fire district, and community events fill out the everyday center.
