Melrose, WI

Melrose is a Jackson County village in Wisconsin’s Black River country, set inside the larger Town of Melrose and connected to neighboring communities by Wisconsin Highway 54. The village is part of the Melrose-Mindoro Area School District, whose footprint reaches across several nearby municipalities. Local history reaches back to the mid-1800s, when settlement, sawmills, and small farms gathered around the Black River valley. The first school near Melrose opened in 1854, and the post office first operated under the name Bristol before moving into the village in 1858. The Black River also links Melrose to older lumber and farm routes that shaped the county.
