About Menlo

Menlo is a small city in Chattooga County at the base of the Cumberland Plateau, just over a mile east of the Alabama line. The 2020 census counted 480 residents. The town sits where western Georgia roads begin to climb toward Lookout Mountain, with Cloudland high above and the county's farm valleys spreading to the east. Menlo's scale is modest, but its position gives it a clear edge-of-the-state character.

Menlo City Hall ga

Menlo was platted in 1883, and its post office has operated since 1886. That long postal history says a lot about the town's role: it has been a named stop for local farms and mountain roads for more than a century. The surrounding plateau and nearby Cloudland provide the larger scenery, while Menlo itself holds the everyday pieces of a small Georgia city - homes, roads, a park, and the institutions that serve people on both sides of the Alabama border. It is a town defined by the line it sits beside and the mountain country rising behind it.
