Mequon, WI

Mequon is surprisingly vast for a North Shore suburb, spanning over 46 square miles from the bluffs of Lake Michigan out to rural rolling fields in the west. The Milwaukee River winds through the middle of town, wrapping around the historic, independent village of Thiensville tucked into the center. Along the eastern shoreline, Concordia University Wisconsin sits atop scenic lakefront bluffs, while busy commercial corridors on Port Washington Road handle big-box shopping and everyday errands. Further west, the newer Mequon Town Center and the surrounding civic campus serve as the community's central gathering spot, bringing together City Hall, local restaurants, coffee shops, and Mequon Community Park. Every September, thousands of neighbors gather here for Taste of Mequon, an outdoor festival packed with local food trucks, live music, and family activities.

Outdoor recreation is a huge selling point for anyone looking to settle down here. The Mequon Nature Preserve offers over 400 acres of restored hardwood forests, wetlands, and quiet walking trails, complete with an education center and an observation tower overlooking the prairie. Cyclists and runners frequent the Ozaukee Interurban Trail, a paved path running right through town that connects into a larger 30-mile countywide network. Right next to Town Center, the Frank L. Weyenberg Library functions as a true community anchor, hosting book clubs, children's programs, and hands-on workshops for both Mequon and Thiensville residents.

One property might be on city water and sewer, while the home across the street relies on a private well and a septic or mound system.
