Meriden, KS

Meriden is a Jefferson County city founded in 1872 and named for a pioneer settler’s former hometown of Meriden, New Hampshire. The city sits northwest of Topeka in the rolling farm country around Rock Creek and Lake Perry, with the older county roads connecting it to rural communities and the lake’s public recreation areas. Jefferson County history reaches back to Daniel Morgan Boone’s early settlement and to the first claims along the creeks, giving Meriden a place in the county’s long transition from frontier farms to small towns.

Jefferson West USD 340 is headquartered in Meriden and serves students from the city, nearby towns, and rural areas around Perry Lake. School buildings and athletics give the city a regular gathering rhythm, while Lake Perry brings boating, fishing, camping, and marina trips within the wider local orbit.
