Merrillville is a town in Lake County, Indiana, in the commercial heart of northwest Indiana. Its older history includes Wiggins Point, a stop for wagon trains heading toward Joliet along the Sauk Trail, and the Deep River settlement near Deep River creek. Modern Merrillville is better known for shopping, offices, hotels, and highway access, especially around U.S. 30 and Interstate 65. It functions as a regional service center for surrounding communities while still carrying traces of the trails and crossroads that shaped it.
