Metuchen, NJ

Metuchen's Northeast Corridor station and Town Plaza place regional rail and community events in the same downtown district. NJ Transit provides accessible platforms, ticket machines, Wi-Fi, bicycle racks and lockers, and municipal and agency parking at the station. Main Street America named the alliance a 2023 Great American Main Street Award recipient for its downtown revitalization work. Metuchen is a borough completely surrounded by Edison Township. Public facilities extend beyond the downtown blocks. Metuchen's community forestry plan counts ten borough-owned parks. Centennial Park covers about 12 acres, and the borough's 48-acre section of the Peter J. Barnes III Wildlife Preserve is part of a much larger landscape of wetlands, meadows, and hardwood forest.

Woodwild Park, a four-acre preserve managed by a private association, adds woodland paths near the center of town. The Middlesex Greenway provides a ten-foot-wide paved route for walking, bicycling, and jogging, with two evening-and-weekend parking lots in Metuchen. As of July 2026, the Metuchen Public Library stays open into the evening four weekdays and maintains a Makery, seed library, museum-pass collection, local-history materials, gallery, digital resources, and programs that include English-language learning, storytimes, and classes. For 2020-2024, the median owner-occupied value was $604,300 and monthly costs for owners with a mortgage were $3,411. About 75 percent of occupied homes were owner-occupied, while median gross rent was $2,078.
