About Mexican Hat

Mexican Hat is a San Juan County CDP on the San Juan River and U.S. 163, named for the unusually shaped rock beside the highway. The Chief Special Warfare Officer Jason R. Workman Memorial Bridge carries Route 163 across the river at the community. Goosenecks State Park follows the river's six-mile entrenched meander and offers primitive campsites, while the BLM's Mexican Hat boat ramp serves river trips at the east end of town. The local map is a highway crossing and river launch framed by the canyon country around the San Juan.
