Mexico is an Oxford County town on several hills above the Androscoggin River, across from Rumford. The Swift River follows Mexico's western edge and meets the Androscoggin at the town's southwest corner. That river junction helped shape the old business center, while Rumford's paper mill across the water gives the valley its industrial backdrop. This is the Maine Mexico: a river-bound mill town whose name needs the state attached.
