Miami Lakes feels distinct from most of South Florida the moment you drive in. Located about 15 miles northwest of downtown Miami, the town was thoughtfully master-planned with lush tree canopies, gentle curves, and dozens of quiet lakes instead of a rigid street grid. The community began in the 1930s as dairy farmland owned by the Graham family. Home construction began in the early 1960s, prioritizing green spaces and scenic waterfront views. Main Street opened in the 1980s to provide a traditional downtown gathering place, and the area officially incorporated in 2000 to preserve its distinct small-town identity.

Neighborhoods across town have their own unique character. The eastern side holds the community's earliest developments, known for classic single-family homes, mature oak trees, and scenic cul-de-sacs along the water.
