Miccosukee, FL

Miccosukee is a census-designated place in northeastern Leon County, where rolling hills, ponds, county roads, and Lake Miccosukee give the community its shape. The lake borders the settlement, and the name reaches back to a Miccosukee tribal town that British mapmakers recorded in 1778. That earlier settlement had homes, families, and a town square, making the lake country’s Indigenous history part of the place itself. The community remains tied to the larger Tallahassee area through Leon County services.

A strong present-day reference point is the Miccosukee Community Center on Cromartie Road. It occupies the former Concord Schoolhouse, a 1940 building that served as the only school for the area until 1958.
